Octo+ (pronounced Octoplus) is a DJ from Indianapolis - living there since the mid-’90s, rooted in Detroit/Chicago influence. While the sounds of the underground are his passion, he's both a trained musician on multiple instruments and an ex-recording studio owner. With a 20+ year break, he's now back in the booth as of late 2023. His sound is dark, driving techno—ranging from trippy to minimal to hardgroove—always raw and proper often with a slant towards the classic techno he grew up on. He's at his best on 4 decks - building dense, technical layers with effects, loops, and precision EQ. His DJ style is to surprise the listener—creating builds and drops rather than letting the tracks dictate the moment. Why the name Octo+?
There's a combination of reasons at work here: Brandon Robertson, the man behind the name, has long-loved the mystical and highly intelligent, almost alien-like octopus. But in addition, the original acoustic turntables (he learned to DJ on) had a maximum speed of 8+ (or 8% increase). This is commonly known in the DJ community. And so it only made sense to choose this moniker.
